    NURS 300W: Reading & Writing in Nursing Studies

  • What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

    Students in NURS 300W work to gain a better understanding of themselves as academic readers and writers and to explore the ethics of communication in the field of nursing, focus on research and academic writing strategies and attend to important aspects of writing in the profession of nursing. They also learn about different parts of the writing process, including planning and prewriting, drafting and revising.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I love helping people. I believe that education is the path to success and a way to level the playing field to combat against inequities in our society. I love to learn, love working with people and love helping people set and accomplish goals that they may or may not have thought were possible.

  • What advice would you give to those considering this online degree program?

    Try it. It is very challenging to balance all that life throws your way while working, having a family and going to school, but it is only a limited-time commitment. The semesters fly by, and before you know it, you will have your degree.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    The more reading, the better. Some great ones include: Yaa Gyasi's "Homegoing," "Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company That Addicted America" by Beth Macy; "There There" by Tommy Orange.
