IA 479 & 681 - Cyber Security in Cloud Computing

What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?

Students learn the following competencies:

• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Cloud security/assurance within the organization and as applied to an IT infrastructure
• Explore dominant themes in Cloud-based systems, including design correctness, support for big data and analytics, monitoring and detection, network considerations, and performance
• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Cloud computing security architecture, Cloud computing risk issues, security challenges, and Cloud security life cycle issues
• Explain what Cloud security is; what security and privacy issues of Cloud security are
• Describe how Cloud security infrastructure is planned, designed and implemented
• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Cloud security objectives and policy development
• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Cloud security and privacy management
• Demonstrate foundational knowledge of Cloud auditing, and compliance
• Explain the importance of Cloud security principles and architecture to the overall security as a service (SaaS) in the Cloud

Why did you start teaching?

The passion to improve students' education and the quality of teaching are two key drivers for my interest in teaching. Also, I enjoy being a life-long learner, thus I get to transfer such qualities to our students. I inspire students through teaching to become future leaders, and seeing such an impact fuels my interest in teaching.

What advice would you give to those considering this online degree program?

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. It will take hard work, dedication, commitment and perseverance to attain your dream degree; therefore, pursue your dream and never give up when obstacles arise.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in cyber security?

In the field of information assurance and cyber security, an individual whose focus to be the best can excel quickly, but they will have to stay current in their profession, motivated, match their industry experience with professional degrees and direct certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, and/or CISA certified). These qualities, besides their coursework and professional experience, will surely impact their career greatly.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that people in the profession face today?

The massive and swift growth of technology. Tools in IT get outdated quick. Thus, staying active in the field of research, education and training is key to being successful.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

"What Successful People Know About Leadership" by John Maxwell.

Even though I come from a technical background, I have a passion for leadership, time management and project management.
