M.A. in Educational Psychology Online Admission Requirements

  • Complete an application online and pay $45 application fee
  • - tuition Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, with an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 OR one of the following:
    • 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate work
    • 3.3 GPA in 12 hours or more of work at the graduate level
    • a minimum score of 4 on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) writing test; international students must have a minimum TOEFL score of 550
  • Complete a Statement of Purpose detailing your professional goals and how this degree will help meet them. Statement should be a minimum of 250 words and describe how your life experiences, accomplishments and interests will contribute to your success in the program. Content will be reviewed as an indicator of writing ability.

Our Academic Rigor Will Prepare You for Expanded Career Opportunities

In order to earn the online master’s degree in educational psychology, students must complete 10 courses (30 credit hours), including 24 credit hours of foundation courses and 6 credit hours of capstone courses. All courses in the program are 7.5 weeks in length, with the exception of the Culminating Project course, which is 15 weeks in length. As an online student, you will take all your classes with EMU instructors, just like you would if you were on campus and cultivate relationships with fellow students as you move through the program.

An introduction to the master’s degree programs in educational psychology. Emphasis is on key areas of study within educational psychology and on tools and strategies necessary for successful graduate-level work.

Deals theoretically and practically with concerns of teachers and parents regarding deterrents to students’ psychological wellness. Focuses on ecological factors as stressors as well as strategies to lessen their effects on learners.

An examination of cognitive, social and emotional development from birth through middle adulthood, including a focus on the impact of context and culture on individual development. Emphasis is on implications for teaching and learning.

An examination of major principles of learning, including implications for learning in the classroom and in other educational settings. Current theories are addressed, including the development of learning sciences and the relationship between neuroscience and education.

This course focuses on the mental health and well-being of the teacher. It is designed to address issues of professional and personal development by challenging students to develop new knowledge and skills and to examine and test, through critical analysis and application, the relevance of course content in their own lives and in the lives of their students.

An examination of motivation as applied to various educational settings and across cultural contexts. Emphasis is on strategies that may influence motivation in self and others.

Basic concepts in understanding and evaluating contemporary educational research, addressing both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The focus is on critical understanding of, rather than production of, research.

Students develop an informed and critical understanding of what mixed methods research is and how to effectively conduct this kind of research in their professional settings.

Students in educational psychology prepare a proposal for a final culminating project or thesis. Students provide leadership in discussing key issues in the field of educational psychology.
